Have you heard of Mamas for Mamas?

“Mamas for Mamas is a national charitable organization that supports mothers and caregivers in crisis by providing ongoing support to individuals and families facing various poverty-related struggles. Our mission is to change the landscape of poverty through innovative approaches to financial barriers faced by struggling families…We are committed to giving a hand up, not just a hand out to those struggling by providing them with essential needs. We are actively engaging with multiple levels of government and non-profit agencies; together we are working to change the systems that contribute to the vicious cycle of poverty, mental health issues, housing, and food insecurity and have recently expanded digitally across Canada.” (Mamas for mamas website)

That’s a big deal and a real need in our current economic climate. The reality is, for ALL parents, it takes a village to raise a family. Mamas for Mamas is that village for parents in Canada.

Now, did you know that we have a chapter in Calgary?

And did you know that, until just recently, they were operating out of volunteers homes, garages and front porches?

Not anymore. Thanks to people that truly believe in the mission of what they’re doing and have the means to do so, the Calgary chapter now has their own space and, my friends, that is reason to party.

Their grand opening was an opportunity for them to showcase their space and their passion. As the volunteers toured people around, the word that I heard most often was “dignity.” As I heard stories and watched people interact, I truly believe that, more than anything, that is what they are providing. What a gift for our city.
