Oakley :: Calgary Newborn Photography
I’m convinced no baby arrives as planned. I mean, you can make all the birth plans and prepare all you want but, at the end of the day, babies have a mind of their own.
Little Oakley was no exception. He came with a few surprises. He came early. He came while his family was in between homes. I’ve never done newborn photos in a campground before but that was his first home and now will forever be captured as part of his story.
I have to give his mom and dad credit. Like loads. They rolled with it all. The way they cared for each other and took what life through at them was brilliant and beautiful. Little Oakley is in good hands.
Perhaps it’s because I’m a mom but something I always want to do in any maternity or newborn session that I do is to celebrate the beauty and miracle of what moms accomplish. Whether that be the beauty of a baby bump, the magic of nursing, or celebrating the power of birth, moms are changed by the process of bringing a baby into the world. Their connection to their child is shaped by it.
I was honoured when Oakley’s mama asked me to document her c-section scars. It wasn’t the birth she had planned but I am so proud of her for honouring their story.
Of course, capturing a new born’s squishy self is the main event; all the little details that change so fast.
Welcome, sweet boy. I can’t wait to watch you grow.
